Briefing:
The policy debate on the debt crisis in Greece has so far mostly been focusing on macroeconomic aspects and whether the Greek government has sufficient political capital to deliver the reforms agreed with the European Commission and the IMF for receiving financial aid. In this Monthly Forum we will instead look into some of the distributional implications of the fiscal austerity and the deep recession that the Greek economy is experiencing.
Manos Matsaganis will present the paper 'Distributional Implications of the Recession and Austerity in Greece' (co-authored with Chrysa Leventi) which provides an early assessment of how the crisis and the adopted policies have been affecting different groups in society. Vassilis Monastiriotis will present his paper 'The Greek Public Sector Wage Premium Before the Crisis: Size, Selection and Labour Market Fairness', which takes a closer look into the implications of the unprecedented pay cuts in the Greek public sector for the Greek labour market.
Venue: ACV-CSC - Rue de Trèves/Trierstraat 31, 1040 Brussels - Room 9
A sandwich lunch will be served from 12h onwards in the cafeteria next to the room.
