Making Trade and Finance Work for people and the planet
The third annual UNCTAD Public Symposium, organized in cooperation with NGLS, will take place on 22-24 June 2011 in Geneva.
Under the general theme “Making Trade and Finance Work for People and the Planet,” the symposium will focus on two main topics linked to major political processes underway:
Financial and monetary reforms for sustainable development: global and regional initiatives (22 June); and
What are the global and regional initiatives needed to avert new crises and make trade and finance work for full and productive employment, reduce inequalities and promote sustainable development?
Making the transition to a green economy fair and equitable (23 June).
How can the transition to a green economy, in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, be made fair at the national and international levels?
(See annotated programme attached)
On 24 June, there will be an informal civil society strategy session on how to take the symposium findings forward and build synergies among major political processes underway (G20 summit, UNFCCC CoP 17, UNCTAD XIII, Rio+20)
The Symposium is open to all representatives from civil society, Member States, academia, private sector, international organizations, parliamentarians, media, and the UN system. The deadline for registration is 10 June 2011.
