Belgian Presidency supports the introduction of a financial transaction tax

The Belgian Presidency was launched on July 1st 2010 (for more information, see our calendar of events).

As stated in the work programme of the Belgian presidency, throughout the duration of the Belgian Presidency, the Council will study various innovative financing proposals as part of the international agenda, and on the basis of preparatory work carried out by the European Commission. It will also examine their interactions with other international, European or national
initiatives taking account of the necessity to maintain a level playing field between economic players. The Belgian Presidency will also continue work on a global transaction tax.
